Is 'Social Media' the future of communications? If it has not reached that point, yet it will shortly. Technology has made it so that you no longer need to talk of many people on a face-to-face basis. Even if you use one of the video conferencing programs you are not truly face-to-face with the person, you can just see them. Take a second to think of all of the different methods you have of communicating with someone other than actually talking to him or her.
There are many different social media sites to use for communication. You can e-mail them; send them and instant message, or many other electronic methods of communication. You do not need to know any language other than OMG, LOL, BRB, and other symbols. Are we regressing, cave dwellers used symbols and so did the Egyptians. Makes you think a little.
How many people have some sort of cell phone? I like to observe people so I see a lot of funny stuff, firstly many people are funny with their cell phone permanently attached to their ear. Whom are they talking to? If someone calls me, I am trying to hang-up before the phone is done ringing I have never liked talking on the phone.
I have to admit my wife and I are guilty of some crazy communications. We both work at home, our computers are in separate rooms, but she is usually on a laptop. We are about ten feet apart, I will see my IM light up, and it is her. Here is a typical message “can you bring me a drink,” “is it time for the dog to go out?” “are you working,” and so on. Why does she not just holler across the hallway? Why do I IM her back? It gets to be a vicious circle. Glad I do not pay per IM or I would be flat broke in a day or two.
